No, Vedic Meditation is a natural ‘mental technique’ that promotes the experience of a deep meditative state within the body and mind. The technique originated in ancient India so carries that faint flavour, but VM is non-religious. The meditative state is something everyone gains benefit from regardless of what they believe

The Vedic Meditation technique has been practiced for over 5,000 years and has its origins in the ancient Vedic tradition of India.
The purity and effectiveness of the practice has been maintained through an unbroken line of teachers from that time. Although originating in India this is not exclusively “Indian” knowledge. The technique is universal in its nature, just as Einstein’s insights into relativity did not apply only in Germany!
The ancient Rishi’s realised that man could find tremendous resources through the development of his consciousness and the Vedic Meditation technique is the result of thousands of years of research and investigation into the subtle inner workings of the mind, body and consciousness. Such a technique and knowledge was specifically designed for “householders” – those fully engaged in worldly life, rather than those interested in a reclusive or monastic lifestyle.

No, this technique is not about controlling or emptying the mind of thoughts. Vedic Meditation is a natural and effortless mental technique that leads the mind into deep state of relaxation without the need of force. It is necessary to sit perfectly still or to have a totally silent mind. This will become a natural result from experiencing the deep relaxation of the technique.
-
Vedic Meditation is a completely natural and effortless technique. Other systems of meditation typically involve concentration or control of the mind. With VM the mind naturally dives deeply within through the agency of a mantra. The process is easy.

I teach Vedic Meditation. I was trained to teach this form of meditation as taught by Thom Knoles. , who continues to teach Vedic Meditation. Thom Knoles was trained as a teacher of Transcendental Meditation (“TM”) by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and Thom Knoles taught TM for over 25 years with TM organizations affiliated with Maharishi. Since 1997, Thom Knoles has continued to teach meditation as he learned it from Maharishi, and has done so independently and separately from the TM organizations. Thom Knoles trained me to teach meditation as he was trained to teach meditation by Maharishi. I am not affiliated with the TM organizations or their current services or programs, which may differ from my services.
-
The form of meditation that Thom Knoles teaches, and taught for over 25 years with the TM organizations as “Transcendental Meditation,” has been the subject of hundreds of scientific studies showing a wide range of benefits from regular practice. These studies, which refer to this form of meditation using the name “Transcendental Meditation” or “TM”, support the benefits obtainable from regular practice of Vedic Meditation.”
